Occupy Nursing Home
In Delray, protesting is not just for the young and restless hipsters. The old and toothless retirees hold up their angry poster boards with the best of them. It’s an odd scene, taking place on the distinct line where the wealthy side of town ends and the poor side begins. A blue-haired lady dressed like she’s on vacation- khakis, a gossamer, white shirt, a straw hat, sandals, and sunglasses- holds a sign with the familiar mantra, “we are the 99%.” A rather distinguished looking old man yells into a megaphone. Part of me wants to say good for them, but most of me, as I sit here sipping my too-expensive, but delicious, non-Starbucks coffee, wants to ask if they’ve come here because they own a vacation home and New York got too cold.
